Abitata fin dall\u2019epoca preistorica, \u00e8 stata un rifugio per Bizantini e Normanni. Nel 1595, fu eretta la \u201cTorre Vigliena\u201d per difendere la costa dai pirati. La zona dei \u201cCanalotti\u201d, con le sue scogliere e fondali profondi, \u00e8 famosa per lo sbarco degli Alleati nel 1943.
